Aesthetic industry is based on “wants” not ”needs”. Let’s talk about liposuction specifically.
Liposuction is removal of subcutaneous fat from specific regions of the body. This can be done in areas ranging from face and neck down to the calves and ankles. Interestingly, fat removed from the body can be safely transferred to the areas of volume deficit to enhance the shape. Areas commonly injected with fat are the face, hands, labia majora (small volume transfer) OR breasts, buttocks, hip dips, calves (large volume transfer).
Fat accumulation in human body occurs based on genetic tendency to store fat. Excess accumulation of the fat makes that specific area look unaesthetic or ugly. That’s the point we start calling ourselves “fat”. This happens due to calorie surplus, consuming more calories than what our body needs (bigger portions of food or unhealthy calorie dense foods).
Taste buds.. Mood swings.. Great chefs..
To eat or not to eat?
Moderation is the key but it’s not always that easy. Social events, peer pressure, hunger pangs, irregular work hours… the reasons are plenty. With unfortunate events like hormonal issues, accidents leading to inability to work out, etc. and beautiful events like pregnancy and breastfeeding , the problem of fat accumulation is only compounded. How much can we restrict ourselves?
Revealing your abs (6 packs) is a result of low fat % (10% body fat or less) and good core muscle bulk.
Improving core strength and muscle size isn’t difficult, it is losing fat layered above the abs that is extremely taxing.
If you are a fit person who feels that the small amount of fat that bothers you can go away with improving your diet and exercise (assuming you’re already good with it) and that you can maintain that improved diet and exercise regime and maintain your six packs, you wouldn’t want to get a liposuction done. Remember, maintaining the result with a good diet and exercise regime is more difficult than achieving that result.
If you aren’t a fit person, but you’re willing to invest time and money for your health, then you must embark on your journey to fitness and see how far you can push by yourself without any surgical help. If you can reach your goal physique by yourself, you’re doing awesome and you do not need help from a plastic surgeon.
If you’re morbidly obese, then you would want to reduce the weight as soon as possible, to avoid comorbidities like high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. and you can opt for a weight loss procedure (Bariatric procedure). You’re not a good candidate for a liposuction as liposuction isn’t a weight loss surgery, it is to slim you down and sculpt/re-shape your body.
Sometimes life gets the better of us. Regardless of the motivation, time constraints or social pressures or genetic tendencies could make it close to impossible to get rid of that stubborn fat. Liposuction is just the right push for you to reach your goal physique and now you can easily maintain it with comparatively less efforts.
Big people with a lot of fat lack motivation to pursue a sport or go to the gym to get rid of the excess fat. Removing fat through liposuction serves as a push (jump start). The time and money spent for the surgery as well as a transformed body works as an excellent motivation to start a new journey.
Losing fat is hard and maintaining your body at a low fat level is even harder.
In a liposuction, an expert plastic surgeon removes the fat cells from that area (most of them). So your probability of gaining fat in the same area is very little.
To summarize, liposuction is an amazing tool to reduce fat from areas that have always bothered you. However, liposuction is a surgical procedure and shouldn’t be misused/abused. Liposuction in expert hands can lead to beautiful and natural looking results for a really long time; however in the hands of the novice can cause disasters.
Make sure you select the right reason for wanting a liposuction and a right person to do it for you.
All the best.
