CORRECTING LOOSE SKIN AND BACK ROLLS
Back Lift In Dubai After Weight Loss
For the skin fold in the middle of the back that liposuction or a lower body lift may not fix
"I still have this fold under my bra."
"My lower body lift helped my waist, but this back roll is still there."
"After weight loss, my back skin hangs in the middle."
"I had liposuction before, but now the skin in my back is loose."
These are common complaints from patients who come for a back lift.
A back lift, also called a bra roll lift, mid-back lift or bra-line back lift, is a skin-removal surgery for loose skin folds in the middle of the back.
It is more commonly done in women, because the scar can usually be hidden in the bra strap line. It can also be done in men, but the scar is harder to hide, so the decision has to be made very carefully
What Is a Back Lift?
A back lift removes loose skin and tissue from the middle of the back.
This is not the same as back liposuction.
- Back liposuction removes fat.
- A back lift removes loose skin.
If the back roll is mainly fat and the skin is tight, liposuction may help. But if the fold is loose skin, liposuction alone will not remove it properly
In a back lift, the extra skin fold is removed and the scar is placed along the bra strap line. In many female patients, this means the scar can be hidden under a bra, bikini top or fitted underwear.
Why a Lower Body Lift Does Not Fix the Mid-Back Fold
This is one of the most important things to understand.
"If I do a lower body lift or buttock lift, won't it also pull down the skin in the back?"
Usually, no.
A lower body lift treats the lower back, waistline, sides, buttocks and lower tummy area.
A mid-back fold sits much higher. It is usually around the bra strap line.
These are two different levels of the body.
So if the fold is sitting in the middle of the back, a lower body lift will usually not remove it. That area may need its own surgery, with its own scar placed higher in the bra-line area.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
A good candidate usually has:
- loose skin folds in the mid-back
- back rolls that remain after weight loss
- loose skin after bariatric surgery
- loose skin after GLP-1 weight loss
- loose skin after repeated weight gain and loss
- loose skin after previous back liposuction
- realistic expectations about the scar
- good general health
The most important thing is that the problem should be loose skin, not just fat.
If the problem is fat, liposuction may be enough.
If the problem is loose skin, a back lift is usually more effective.
Back Lift After Weight Loss
After major weight loss, the back can change a lot.
The fat becomes smaller, but the skin may not shrink back fully. The patient may be left with a fold across the back that shows through clothes.
This can happen after:
- bariatric surgery
- Ozempic, Mounjaro or other GLP-1 weight loss
- natural weight loss
- fitness transformation
- repeated weight gain and loss
Patients may feel frustrated because they have done the hard work of losing weight, but the back fold still makes them feel uncomfortable in fitted clothes.
A back lift can remove this fold and make the back look smoother.
Back Lift After Previous Liposuction
Some patients have had back liposuction before.
If the fat was removed but the skin did not tighten, they may be left with loose folds.
They may say:
- "The fat is less, but the skin is now hanging."
- "The roll became empty, but it did not go away."
In these patients, doing more liposuction may not help.
If the problem is skin, the skin has to be removed.
This is why some revision-liposuction patients may need a back lift rather than another round of liposuction.
Back Lift for Men
Men can also have a back lift, especially after major weight loss or previous liposuction.
The main difference is the scar.
In women, the scar can often be hidden under the bra strap. In men, there is no bra line to hide it.
So in male patients, I discuss the scar very clearly. A back lift is only worth doing if the skin fold bothers the patient enough to accept a visible scar across the back.
Can a Back Lift Be Combined With Other Procedures?
Yes, in selected patients.
A back lift may be combined with:
- arm lift
- extended arm lift
- axillary lift
- breast lift
- breast lift with implants
- male chest lift
- back liposuction
It may also be planned as part of a larger post-weight-loss body-contouring plan.
However, I do not combine procedures just for convenience. The plan depends on safety, surgery time, blood loss, recovery position and what the patient can manage after surgery
Where Is the Scar?
The scar is placed across the back, usually in the bra strap line.
- For women, the aim is to place it where it can be hidden under a bra or bikini top.
- For men, the scar is harder to hide, so the decision must be more careful.
The scar is the main trade-off of this surgery.
But for the right patient, the benefit is that the hanging mid-back fold is removed directly.
How Is a Back Lift Done?
A back lift is done under general anaesthesia.
The usual duration is around 2 hours
It is usually a day-case surgery, which means most patients go home the same day.
The usual steps are:
- Marking - I mark the skin fold while the patient is standing
- Anaesthesia - the procedure is done under general anaesthesia.
- Skin removal - the loose skin fold is removed from the mid-back.
- Internal stitching - the wound is closed with internal stitches.
- Dressing and compression - a dressing is placed over the stitches and a supportive garment is applied.
Drains are usually not needed.
Recovery After Back Lift
Recovery is usually manageable, but patients need to protect the scar.
In my practice:
- no drains are usually needed
- stitches are internal
- dressing usually comes off after around 10 days
- no shower directly on the back wound for 10 days
- the front of the body can be showered carefully
- women wear a surgical bra-style compression
- men wear a gynecomastia-style compression garment
- garment is worn for at least 3 weeks
- after 3 weeks, garment duration is gradually reduced
- additional foams may be used
- work usually starts after about 1 week
- gym usually starts after about 1 month
The scar needs time and care. Scar care continues even after the wound has healed.

Why Choose Dr. Hardik Ganatra?
I focus exclusively on body contouring.
A back lift is not just about cutting out a fold. The scar has to be planned carefully, the skin has to be removed in the right amount, and the back needs to look smoother in clothes.
I see many patients after weight loss and after previous liposuction. I also do a large amount of revision and correction body-contouring work, so I understand when liposuction is enough and when skin removal is the better answer
My approach is simple:
- identify whether the problem is fat or skin
- keep the scar as hidden as possible
- avoid unnecessary liposuction when skin removal is needed
- combine procedures only when it is safe
- give honest advice about the scar
- focus on natural, smoother body shape

If cellulite on your buttocks, thighs or lower body is something you're ready to address properly, the first step is understanding what type you have — not picking a device. I'll look at whether the problem is mainly superficial pits, deep tethering bands, diffuse texture, volume loss, lipedema, skin laxity or loose skin after weight loss, and the plan follows from there.
