Leg Liposuction In Dubai
Calf, ankle and lower-leg liposuction for patients whose legs look heavy because of fat.
A simple concern that can affect confidence
“I feel like my legs look huge.”
“I cannot wear shorts or skirts.”
“I always feel I need to hide my legs.”
“My ankles look thick, no matter how much weight I lose.”
These are common things patients tell me when they come for leg liposuction.
Some patients have fat around the calves and ankles. Some have lipedema. Some have swelling. Some simply have strong calf muscles and think it is fat.
The first step is not surgery. The first step is to understand what is actually making the legs look heavy.
What Is leg liposuction?
Leg liposuction removes fat from selected parts of the lower legs. In this page, I am mainly talking about calf liposuction, ankle liposuction and lower-leg shaping.
The aim is not to make the legs look weak or extremely thin. The aim is to make the legs look slimmer, cleaner and better shaped when the problem is fat.
In some patients, the calf goes almost straight into the ankle. Patients often call this “cankles.” If this is due to fat, careful ankle liposuction may help. If it is due to swelling or lymphedema, liposuction is usually not the right first treatment.
Is it fat, muscle, swelling or lipedema?
This question matters a lot.
Not every large calf needs liposuction. Sometimes the calf is large because of muscle. This is common in patients who train a lot or naturally have strong calves. Liposuction cannot make muscle smaller. In those patients, calf Botox may be a better option.
Sometimes the problem is swelling, veins, lipedema or lymphedema. The treatment changes depending on the cause.
If I suspect varicose veins or venous swelling, I may ask for a vascular assessment or Doppler before surgery. Patients with untreated vein problems can bruise more and may have longer swelling.
Lipedema can also make the lower legs and ankles look heavy. The ankles may look thick while the feet are relatively spared. These patients need a more medical plan, stronger aftercare and more lymphatic support.
Lymphedema is different. If swelling is mainly due to a lymphatic problem, I prefer treating the root cause with a lymphedema specialist rather than treating it like cosmetic fat.
Who is a good candidate?
A good candidate for leg, calf or ankle liposuction usually has:
- fat that can be felt under the skin
- little or mild loose skin
- no significant untreated varicose veins
- realistic expectations
- good general health
- a willingness to wear compression and follow the swelling-care plan
This procedure is best for patients who want a better leg shape, not patients expecting tiny legs overnight.
Who may not be suitable?
Leg liposuction may not be the right choice if:
- the calf size is mainly muscle
- there is significant swelling or lymphedema
- there are untreated varicose veins
- there is a lot of loose skin
- the patient expects the leg shape to change beyond what the anatomy allows
If the issue is muscle, calf Botox may be discussed. If the issue is lymphedema, the patient needs a different medical pathway.
Calf liposuction
Calf liposuction is done to reduce fat around the lower leg and improve the shape from the knee down.
I do not want the calf to look flat or strange. The calf should still look natural. The goal is a slimmer leg with a softer and cleaner shape.
Ankle liposuction and cankle correction
Ankle liposuction is delicate. There is not a lot of space around the ankle, and swelling can last longer than in other areas.
When done correctly, it can help create more shape between the calf and the foot. Patients often describe the goal as wanting the lower leg to look more elegant, like a champagne glass.
How is the procedure done?
The surgery is usually done under anaesthesia in a hospital setting. The exact plan depends on whether we are treating only the calves and ankles or also other areas.
The steps are usually simple to understand:
- small hidden entry points are marked
- tumescent fluid is placed to reduce bleeding and make fat removal smoother
- VASER may be used to loosen the fat
- fat is removed with fine cannulas
- the front of the lower leg, calf and ankle are shaped carefully
- J-Plasma may be added when skin tightening is needed
I try to keep the number of small scars as low as possible, especially in lipedema patients, because multiple visible scars on the legs can make it obvious that surgery was done.
Recovery after leg and ankle liposuction
Swelling is the biggest thing patients need to understand.
After calf and ankle liposuction, the ankles and feet can swell. Some patients cannot wear their usual shoes for the first one or two weeks.
This is expected. It does not mean something has gone wrong.
I usually advise:
- keep the feet elevated as much as possible during the first one to two weeks
- sleep with the legs slightly elevated
- do short walks in the first two weeks
- avoid long continuous walks early on because they can increase swelling
- resume longer walks slowly after around two weeks
- restart proper gym exercise after about one month
- wear compression for around one to two months
Lymphatic massage is helpful. In lipedema patients, the massage and swelling care may need to be more intensive.
Cost of leg liposuction in Dubai
Leg liposuction with ankle liposuction starts from AED 20,000, excluding 5% VAT.
The final price depends on the areas treated, whether lipedema is present, whether J-Plasma is needed, and whether other areas are combined.
Why Choose Dr. Hardik Ganatra
I focus exclusively on body contouring. That matters because leg liposuction is not just about removing fat. It is about understanding leg shape.
As a recreational natural bodybuilder, I understand how a muscular body should look. The calves should not only be slimmer. They should still look balanced and well shaped.
Being based in Dubai has also given me global exposure. I have operated on patients from more than 100 nationalities, so my understanding of beauty, leg shape and body proportion is not limited to one culture.
In my practice, I use modern tools such as VASER and J-Plasma when they are useful, but I do not rely only on machines. The diagnosis, planning and surgical judgment matter more than the device.
I also try to minimize unnecessary incisions, especially in patients with lipedema, so the legs do not end up with multiple obvious surgery marks.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can liposuction make my calves smaller?
Yes, if the calf size is due to fat. If the calf is mainly muscle, liposuction will not make it smaller.
What are cankles?
Patients use this word when the ankle looks thick and the calf goes straight into the ankle without much shape.
Can ankle liposuction help cankles?
It can help when the thickness is due to fat. If the issue is swelling or lymphedema, another treatment plan is needed.
Will my feet swell after surgery?
Yes, foot and ankle swelling is common. Some patients cannot wear their usual shoes for one or two weeks.
How long do I wear compression?
Usually around one to two months, depending on the swelling and the amount of work done.
Can I walk after surgery?
Yes. Short walks are encouraged, but long walks are avoided early because they can increase swelling.
When can I return to the gym?
Proper gym exercise is usually resumed after about one month, depending on healing.
Is leg liposuction the same as lipedema surgery?
No. Lipedema surgery is more medical and usually needs stronger swelling control, compression and lymphatic care.
What if my calves are muscular?
If the fullness is mostly muscle, calf Botox may be a better option than liposuction.
How much does leg liposuction cost?
Leg liposuction with ankle liposuction starts from AED 20,000, excluding 5% VAT.
Book a Consultation
If your legs are disproportionately large, heavy or painful and you think it might be lipedema, the first step is a proper clinical assessment — not choosing surgery from a photo. I’ll confirm whether it’s lipedema, check your venous and clotting status, and tell you honestly whether liposuction will help, whether it should be staged, or whether a lymphatic specialist is the better next step.
